This tabletop has been made from a single slab of British-grown elm, chosen for the movement and individuality within its grain.
Rather than cutting away the irregularities that make the timber distinctive, Matt has worked with them. The natural edge has been retained, allowing you to follow the original shape of the tree, while cold cast brass has been used to fill and draw attention to selected fissures and features within the wood.
Look across the surface and you can see the grain moving from one end of the slab to the other. Changes in colour, figuring and the irregular edge aren't defects to disguise — they are part of the story of the individual tree.
The lighter sycamore frame creates a gentle contrast with the richer elm above it, giving the table a contemporary feel without competing with the timber.
The table is finished with a food-safe oil, protecting the wood while allowing its natural colour and grain to remain visible.
The elm used for this table is traceable British timber.
Your table also comes with its own Nuthatch Creations provenance certificate, recording what we know about the timber used to make it.
