Our Story & Mission at Nuthatch Creations
“Our mission is to craft thoughtful furniture, whilst supporting the care and growth of woodlands”
Matt is happiest with sawdust on his sleeves and birdsong overhead, not under fluorescent classroom lights. After 25 years teaching geography—the career path of both his father and grandfather—work-place stress was draining his health and dimming the environmental passion that first led him to an Environmental Science degree.
One October afternoon in 2024, while hand-shaping a fallen oak board in their garden, Matt watched Lara—sculptor, nature-lover, and sworn enemy of household clutter—sketch a sleek, built-in bookcase to calm the chaos of their own lounge. In that shared “aha” moment they saw a different future: craft furniture that tames mess, fosters family connection, and actively restores Britain’s woodlands.
They launched Nuthatch Creations—Matt at the workbench, Lara on design—promising heirloom tables for gathering, storage solutions that breathe serenity into busy homes, and a business model that plants new trees for every one they mill. Today, each piece carries that garden-born pledge: beauty that endures, spaces that soothe, forests that thrive.
